Aurora, IL

Project Overview

Developed in 1997, the Rush Copley Healthplex is a 196,000-square-foot medically-based, comprehensive fitness center. Part of the Rush Copley hospital campus, designed as a collection of well integrated and complementary facilities, the Rush Copley Healthplex is an environment focused on wellness.

Project Strategy

The facility includes 29,120 square feet of occupational therapy, physical therapy and medical offices, providing a seamless integration of traditional medical services and fitness activities.

A full array of wellness and fitness amenities are offered to the public and the rehabilitation patient, including an aquatics center with lap pool and warm water therapy pool, saunas, steam rooms, whirlpools and cold plunge pools, eight indoor and six outdoor tennis courts, 10,000 square feet of multipurpose courts, two rock climbing walls, one-fifth mile indoor running track, boxing and martial arts studios, aerobics and cardiovascular studios, a cardiac rehabilitation center, 12,000-square-foot children’s fitness center, and cafe.

Construction costs for the center were minimized through the use of simple raw materials and straight forward building design.

Described as a hospital for the 21st century, the Rush Copley Healthplex showcases the successful blending of traditional fitness with rehabilitative, preventative and primary care physician services.
