Granger Group Employee of the Month for March: Lisa Hinrichs-Hodgini

Published March 17, 2017

We sat down with our March employee of the month, Lisa Hinrichs-Hodgini on St. Patrick's Day to talk about what motivates her. Here is what she had to say:

Tell us something unique about yourself – I lived in Brasil for 4 years and Samba’d in Rio’s world famous Carnaval Parade with Samba School ‘Portela’ every year!

What is your favorite TV show growing up – X Files

What is your favorite Hobby – Horseback Riding

What is the next bucket list item you want to cross off? Doing a Kentucky Derby ‘Insider Day’ – Hanging with the horses, trainers, jockeys, owners – Front row seats, wearing the hat, drinking the juleps, singing My Old Kentucky Home…and of course, interviewing the winning jockey on national television via horseback!

Who is your role model, why? My Grandma Marie…She passed at the age of 106, but is in my heart & soul every minute. She came to the US, from Poland, at the age of 8 with her 4 younger siblings – leading them every step of the way! After high school in Detroit, she moved by herself to Chicago for a job, and never looked back. She survived the death of 2 husbands, always approached life with humor, realistic sensibility, the ability to shrug off hardships & move forward, and an uncanny knack to board a bus and become best friends with all of the passengers by the time she got to her destination. She had a thirst for knowledge & never stopped learning – she was the regional spelling bee champion at Oak Crest well after she turned 100. She loved to walk & get out – even after macular degeneration stole her sight – she recruited friends to take her to mass and to make the daily walk to the mailbox & back. She was strong and positive and grateful for life…and I continually strive to follow in her 106 years of footsteps!

What is your favorite part of working at Granger Group? It’s refreshing to work with an excellent group of peers who share a perfect combinatation of intelligence & a great sense of humor.

What is the most fulfilling part of your job? The thing that satisfies me the most about my contribution here at Granger Group is knowing that I am making a positive impact on the lives of our residents at First & Main; that I can give a ‘voice’ to our residents and their families in the construction & design of their new ‘home', at a stage in their lives when many feel as if more is being taken from them, than given to them.
